Road Shoulder Program
This program maintains and restores roadway shoulders to improve safety and prevent pavement edge deterioration. Work is primarily performed on multi-lane roadways due to higher traffic volumes and speeds, but also includes select two-lane roads as needed.
The program also maintains certain unpaved parking and alley areas. The five-person shoulder crew is formed as staffing allows and consists of personnel from the pothole and tree trimming programs. The crew is typically deployed multiple times per week and places approximately 100–120 tons of base rock or millings each month.
