Permitting Services – Online-First Process Effective July 1, 2026

The City of Cape Coral is transitioning to an online-first permitting process beginning July 1, 2026, to improve efficiency, reduce wait times, and provide greater access to permitting services.

Licensed contractors have been required to submit permit applications online since 2024 and are already using the City's digital permitting system. Beginning July 1, owner-builders will also be expected to submit permit applications through the City's online portal as the standard application process.

All new permit applications and related permitting activities must be submitted through the City's online permitting portal:

The online system allows customers to:

• Submit permit applications 24/7
• Upload plans and supporting documents
• Track application status in real time
• Receive notifications and updates
• Manage permits from any location

Assistance for Owner-Builders

Customers who need assistance with the online application process may visit City Hall for support.

Public computer stations are available for customers who do not have access to a computer or need help navigating the online system. Staff will be available to provide guidance on using the portal; however, permit applications must still be submitted electronically through the online system.

In-Person Services and Appointments

Beginning July 1, permit applications will no longer be accepted at the permit counter.

Appointments will be limited primarily to services associated with permit applications that were originally submitted as paper applications before the transition to the online system. Examples may include:

• Submitting revisions to previously submitted paper permit applications
• Resubmitting documents for previously submitted paper permit applications
• Providing supporting documentation requiring expedited processing for previously submitted paper permits, such as extension requests or engineer letters
