Cape Coral Warns of Building Permit Email Scam

October 6, 2026

The City of Cape Coral is warning residents and contractors about fraudulent emails impersonating City staff regarding building permits.

The scam email uses the name of the City’s Development Services Director but is sent from an address ending in “@dr.com.” This is not the City’s email domain, and the message is not from the City.

Using a City employee’s name does not make an email legitimate. Residents and contractors should carefully review the sender’s full email address before responding or taking action.

Residents and contractors are advised to:

  • Avoid clicking links or downloading attachments in suspicious emails.
  • Verify the sender’s full email address. The City uses “@capecoral.gov,” not “@dr.com” or “@usa.com.”
  • Contact the City directly using contact information from its official website—not phone numbers, email addresses, or links provided in a suspicious message.
  • Only make permit fee payments through the EnerGov portal or at the Cashier’s Office at City Hall.

For questions about building permits or to verify a message, visit the City’s official website to find the appropriate department’s contact information.
