City of Cape Coral Hires Ian Hyatt as Information Technology Services Director

Ian HyattThe City of Cape Coral has hired Ian Hyatt as its new information technology services director. With decades of leadership experience across higher education, private industry, and military service, Hyatt brings a proven track record of innovation, strategic planning, and operational excellence to his new role.

In this position, Hyatt will serve as department administrator for the Information Technology Services Department. He will lead the development and execution of the City’s information technology strategic plan and oversee a multi-year IT budget. With broad authority and independent judgment, Hyatt will direct all ITS operations, ensuring the City’s technology infrastructure supports efficient, secure, and forward-thinking municipal services.

Hyatt most recently served as chief of staff to the president of Purdue University, retiring in December 2024, where he led strategic initiatives and supported institutional decision-making, operations, and emergency management. He previously served as Purdue’s chief information officer and vice president of information technology from 2021 to 2024, overseeing more than 700 personnel and managing an annual budget exceeding $120 million, with responsibilities spanning cybersecurity, infrastructure, and campuswide technology services. Before joining Purdue, Hyatt spent more than 19 years with International Game Technology in executive leadership roles, including vice president of global services, logistics, and fleet. He also completed a 37-year career in the Rhode Island Air National Guard, retiring in 2022 as state command chief master sergeant.

During his career, Hyatt was named Tech Executive of the Year by the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2023, was recognized among the Top 10 Education CIOs by Education Technology Insights, was included in the EdScoop 50 Higher Education IT Executives of the Year, and in 2024, he earned Cisco’s Transformation Trailblazer Award for his leadership in driving impactful technological change.

In his new role, Hyatt will focus on advancing Cape Coral’s technology capabilities, strengthening cybersecurity, and ensuring IT services effectively support the city’s operations and long-term growth.
