Cape Coral Warns of Invoice Scam

January 16, 2026

The City of Cape Coral warns the public of a scam involving the fraudulent issuance of City invoices to unsuspecting victims in an attempt to collect money.

Using the City seal, the scammer forges an invoice that looks like it's from the City, requests payment via wire transfer, and sends the message from a non-government email address.

Scams like these commonly use the "@USA.com" email domain, because it can appear to be from a government agency.

The City of Cape Coral never requests payments via wire transfer or third-party applications like PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.

If you receive an invoice that appears to be from the City but seems suspicious, bring it to the City’s Cashier’s Office on the first floor of City Hall. Staff there will verify the invoice and, if valid, collect payment in person.
