Cape Coral Receives Water Conservation Award

August 21, 2026

The City of Cape Coral has been selected as the winner of the Water Conservation Award by the Florida Irrigation Society Water Summit for the development of the City's new water conservation ordinance.

This award honors the city's efforts to conserve Florida's water resources.

The water conservation ordinance focuses on water management, efficiency, and conservation challenges due to population growth and recurring severe drought conditions. The ordinance mandates water-efficient irrigation systems with a minimum 70% efficiency. Systems must follow manufacturer specifications for optimal coverage and efficiency.

"This ordinance represents an important step toward responsible water management and long-term sustainability for Cape Coral," said Jeff Pearson, Cape Coral's Utilities Director. "We appreciate everyone who contributed their knowledge and perspective to help develop practical conservation measures that will benefit our community for years to come."
