Cape Coral Recognized for 40 Years of Council-Manager Government

The City of Cape Coral has been recognized by the Florida City and County Management Association (FCCMA) for 40 years of service under the council-manager form of government.

Senior Advisor of FCCMA, Ed Lavallee, presented this award to Mayor Gunter and City Manager Ilczyszyn during the July 15, 2026, council meeting. This milestone highlights the City’s longstanding commitment to professional management, transparency, and effective service delivery to residents.

Under the council-manager model, the elected City Council sets policy direction for the community while an appointed professional city manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization, reinforcing accountability, transparency, and efficient delivery of municipal services.

FCCMA is a professional organization of practicing public administrators from cities and counties throughout Florida that promotes ethical, professional local government management and the council-manager form of government.
