Cape Coral Thanks Community for Making Historic Raise the Flag Celebration Possible
July 7, 2026
The City of Cape Coral marked America’s 250th anniversary with a memorable day of community pride, patriotism, and celebration, highlighted by the historic Raise the Flag Ceremony on Saturday, July 4.

Residents, visitors, veterans, donors, and community partners gathered to witness the American flag raised for the first time atop Florida’s tallest free-standing flagpole, measuring 250 feet, a milestone made possible through the generosity and support of the Cape Coral community.
The celebration continued into the evening with the City’s Red, White & BOOM! event, drawing thousands for live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and a fireworks display honoring the nation’s historic anniversary.
“The Raise the Flag project represents the very best of Cape Coral,” said City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn. “Through the dedication of our residents, veterans, generous donors, City Council, and City staff, we have created a landmark that will stand as a powerful symbol of patriotism and pride for generations to come.”
Due to high demand, the City is also extending sales of the Cape Coral Restaurant Passport for one additional week. For purchase information and details, visit bit.ly/RTFPassport.
The City thanks all who participated in making America’s 250th anniversary a celebration to remember and for helping make this historic community project a reality.
