Cape Coral Urges Property Owners to Prepare for 2026 Hurricane Season

Hurricane Season 2026 begins today, and the City of Cape Coral reminds residents to prepare their homes before severe weather arrives. Taking simple steps now, well before a storm is in the forecast, can significantly reduce damage to your property and help keep your family safe.

Secure loose shingles and garage doors. Develop an evacuation plan. Fill gas tank. Bring in outdoor furniture and trash totes. Get a portable generator (keep 20 feet from home).

  • Inspect trees - Look for damage, use licensed professionals when needed, and choose appropriately sized native species to reduce future storm hazards.
  • Clean guttersKeep gutters and downspouts clear of debris and in good repair to help prevent water intrusion and flooding around your home.
  • Repair roofs in advance of stormsAddress any damage and consider truss tie-downs to strengthen the structure.
