Cape Coral Provides Full Transparency in Response to JLAC Audit
December 12, 2025
The City of Cape Coral has released a detailed report addressing 26 assertions made by a local contractors’ association about the City’s Building Division and Financial Services Department. The release follows a request by the Florida Joint Legislative Auditing Committee for the Auditor General’s Office to conduct an operational audit.
Following an internal review, City staff compiled clear, evidence-based responses and supporting documentation for each assertion. The full materials are now available on the City’s Open Government webpage.
“Our residents deserve facts and full transparency,” said City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn. “We take our responsibility to operate openly and in full compliance with Florida law very seriously. This review shows the strength of our internal controls and our commitment to integrity in every aspect of city operations.”
The webpage includes a summary of the City’s response to each of the 26 assertions and supporting documents and data. To view the full report, responses and supporting documentation, visit CapeCoral.gov/OpenGovernment and look under the JLAC Audit tab.
The City will continue to cooperate fully with the Auditor General’s Office throughout the audit.
“We welcome oversight and are committed to providing accurate, verifiable information,” Ilczyszyn added. “Our goal is to maintain the trust of our residents through honesty and transparency. Public claims have real consequences for contractors, realtors, and the housing market. We want to ensure Cape Coral remains one of the strongest markets in the State."
