April 20, 2021

The City of Cape Coral mourns the loss of former District 6 Council Member Rick Williams.

The former council member passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2022.

“The City of Cape Coral has lost a great leader with the passing of former Councilmember Rick Williams,” said Mayor John Gunter. “During his 8 years on Council, Rick will be remembered for his contagious personality and passionate involvement with the Youth and the entire community. I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Williams family during this difficult time.”

Williams created and founded the Cape Coral Youth Council. He was the liaison from February 2017 to August 2021. Williams’ passion was to give the Youth in our City a place to have their voices heard.

Former Council Member Williams served two consecutive terms from November 2013 to August 2021. Williams served in the Navy for 22 years and will have a burial at sea, the date of which has yet to be determined.

Instead of flowers, Williams’ family is asking for donations to be made to a charity that was near and dear to his heart – The Cape Coral Animal Shelter.
