City Auditor’s Office Receives Clean Peer Review

April 18, 2024

City Auditor Andrea Russell and the Cape Coral City Auditor’s Office (CAO) received a pass rating on their most recent peer review, which spans January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2023.

The City Auditor's Office has had five peer reviews, and this review is the first in which the office did not receive formal comments regarding areas of improvement. The CAO is required to undergo a peer review to comply with Government Auditing Standards.

Organizations can receive a rating of pass, pass with deficiencies, or fail. The peer review team consisted of individuals from other audit offices throughout the country who are part of the Association of Local Government Auditors.

The peer review team leader noted that the CAO excelled in the following areas:

  • Well-organized audit documentation workpaper files that were easy to follow.
  • A well-established project software template that facilitates compliance with Government Auditing Standards.
  • A high amount of audit productivity relative to the number of audit staff.
  • A refined, comprehensive audit policies and procedures manual helps auditors perform high-quality audits that meet Government Auditing Standards.
