Canal Crash: Man arrested for filing false police report after driving truck into canal

(March 1, 2024) -- On February 28, 2024, at approximately 7:48 p.m., the Cape Coral Police Department responded to SW 12th Avenue and SW 4th Street in Cape Coral, Florida, for reports that a car had driven into the canal.

Notes of the call indicated a pickup truck went full speed into a canal. Notes also stated the driver exited the vehicle and fled the area.

Officers arrived and began a traffic crash investigation, which included Cape Coral Fire Department Rescue Divers. Divers entered the canal and did not locate any occupants. Officers did not find anyone in the nearby area.

The Cape Coral Police Department’s Dive Team responded along with a local tow company and removed a black pickup truck from the water.

The truck was registered to Cody Michael Issacs (DOB 04/24/1993). Officers responded to Cody Isaacs’ residence, and no one answered the door.

The next morning, on February 29, at approximately 5 a.m., Cody Isaacs contacted the Cape Coral Police Department, wanting to report his vehicle as stolen. He provided a sworn written statement to officers expressing that his car had been stolen and he had been at home sleeping all night since 7:30 p.m. Cody Issacs said he did not crash his truck and wanted to press charges.

Later in the evening, on February 29, a Cape Coral resident called the police department and stated they had video footage from the night before. Video footage clearly showed Cody Issacs leaving the scene of the traffic crash.

Officers went back to Cody Issacs’ residence. He stated he should not have reported his car stolen and was just concerned about getting into trouble.

Cody Issacs was placed under arrest and charged with the following:
