Results of Speed and Aggressive Driving, Operation Better Late than Never

(February 22, 2024)- The Cape Coral Police Department conducted a traffic saturation (Operation Better Late than Never) on February 16, 2024 specifically targeting speed and aggressive driving. This operation was conducted citywide and resulted in fifty-eight citations.

A traffic stop was conducted for a seatbelt violation. Contact was made with the driver who produced a Florida ID card only. Post Miranda she admitted to not having a Driver’s License. An FCIC/NCIC check confirmed her admission. UTCR issued.

A traffic stop was conducted for texting and driving. Contact was made with the driver who provided a Florida ID Card and spontaneously uttered that he did not have a Driver’s License. An FCIC/NCIC check confirmed his utterance and revealed the driver also had 2 outstanding warrants for identity theft out of Louisiana. Driver was taken to LCJ.

Ms. Hitchcock came to retrieve the vehicle from the above arrest (24-003819). A Driver’s License check through FCIC/NCIC revealed that Ms. Hitchcock also had two outstanding warrants for identity theft out of Louisiana. Ms. Hitchcock was taken to LCJ.

*******The operation was paid for with FDOT sub-grant funding. Cape Coral currently ranks 12th out of 38 agencies in Speeding or Aggressive Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the City, the Department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
