Armed Robbery suspects charged with Animal Cruelty

(February 14th, 2024) -- On February 12, 2024, the Cape Coral Police Department served a search warrant on the home of two suspects in a recent armed robbery. Upon searching the home, they found probable cause to charge each suspect with four counts of Animal Cruelty.

On February 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., the Cape Coral Police Department was called to the Lowe’s Home Improvement Store at 1651 NE Pine Island Road, Cape Coral, Florida, to investigate a robbery. A Loss Prevention Officer told police a male and female in Cookie Monster pajamas tried to leave the store with items they hadn't paid for, and when questioned, the male flashed a gun in his waistband and made threats. The female spit on the Loss Prevention Officers.

On February 12, 2024, at 12:49 a.m., Charlie Jorge Perez (DOB 01/03/2002) and Jalina Analise Sepulveda (DOB 09/05/2004) were arrested for the Robbery and taken to the Lee County Jail.

That same morning, a search warrant for their home at 1310 NE 4th Terrace, Cape Coral, Florida, was served. Immediately upon entering the home, officers smelled an overwhelming stench of animal feces and urine. Four mixed-breed French Bulldogs were found in cages in Perez and Sepulveda's bedroom. The dogs in the bedroom appeared to have been in the cages for some time and were suffering from Dermodectic Mange, a severe skin condition, and had open sores. One of the dog's toes was stuck in the bottom of the cage and was swollen. There were feces in the water bowls and cages, creating unsanitary conditions for the dogs. A witness told officers they believed the dogs had not been out of their cages for four months.

Lee County Animal Control responded and freed the dog's foot from the cage. Each dog was removed from their cages and needed assistance. Two had to be carried to the Animal Control van.

Three dogs in the living room appeared to be much healthier than the dogs found in the bedroom. There were also three cats that appeared to be healthy. Based on the condition of the French Bulldogs, all ten animals were seized by Animal Control and brought in for treatment. Later, Perez and Sepulveda willingly relinquished the ownership of their animals.

Based on the condition of the four French Bulldogs, it was apparent that Perez and Sepulveda neglected these dogs, causing unnecessary pain and suffering.

Perez and Sepulveda were already at the Lee County Jail, and are both now charged with four counts of Animal Cruelty in addition to their previous charges from the armed robbery.

Charlie Jorge Perez (01/03/2002) is charged with the following:
-- 4 counts in violation of F.S.S. 828.12, Animal Cruelty
