THC Wax Arrest: Why THC Wax is Becoming a Problem

(January 31, 2024)-- On January 30th, 2024 around 8 p.m., officers working for the Cape Coral Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a car for driving without headlights near the 800 block of Cape Coral Parkway East, Cape Coral, Florida.

Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Cameron Durlacher (03/29/2000), and explained the reason for the stop. After a routine license check, Officers discovered that Durlacher had a suspended license. Durlacher had two children in the back seat.

While talking with Durlacher, officers observed a large bag of marijuana in plain view on the passenger side floorboard as well as a mason jar with a wax substance inside. Officers asked Durlacher if he had a pound of weed on the passenger floorboard. Durlacher spontaneously uttered, “Yes,” as he handed the large package to the officers.

Officers also conducted a search of the vehicle and found “Puff LA Pineapple cush THC vapes” (10 pack) and “Puff LA Cherry THC vapes” (10 pack).
Officers packaged 416 grams of marijuana into evidence and 32.4 grams of THC wax.

Durlacher was arrested and charged with the following:
--1 count of F.S.S. 893.13(6)(a) - Possess Marijuana over 20 grams
--3 count of F.S.S. 893.13(6)(c) - Synthetic Narcotic Possession, over 10 grams Schedule 1

THC wax is a concentrate of marijuana and looks similar to ear wax. THC wax has become a major problem, especially with the younger generations. THC wax is typically used in certain vape pens, which have become more popular in high schools. Teens can buy these vape pens with THC wax inside. One “hit” of THC wax has the same effects as a joint of marijuana.

Many of the new vape pens look exactly like pens used on paper. They are easily concealed, and most parents have no idea their children are using these. Strong marijuana usage in teens can cause a myriad of problems such as trouble focusing and memory issues. It is important for parents to have constant communication with their children and notice any behavioral changes.

Possession of THC Wax is a felony. Possession of a controlled substance on school property is also a felony. Our agency is committed to keeping our schools and community safe. It is up to the parents to have strong relationships with their children and educate them on the dangers and repercussions associated with drugs.
