Expansion of Florida Move Over Law

The Florida “Move Over” law is expanding.

Florida State Statute 316.126 has added that drivers must now move over a lane when safe to do so or reduce your speed to 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit for the presence of a disabled motor vehicle.

The law now specifically dictates you must move over or reduce your speed to 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit for the following: emergency vehicles, sanitation or utility service vehicles, tow trucks, construction vehicles OR if “a disabled motor vehicle is stopped and is displaying warning lights or hazard lights; is stopped and is using emergency flares or posting emergency signage; or is stopped and one or more persons are visibly present.”

Please pay attention, obey the law, and help us save lives. The picture featured was a recent accident where an officer was inside his car on a traffic stop. The officer’s police vehicle was hit by a drunk driver that failed to move over. Please do your part to ensure road safety in Cape Coral. You could save lives.
