Road Rage Incident with Baseball Bat Leads to Arrest

(December 11, 2023) On December 8th, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers working for the Cape Coral Police Department were dispatched to a disturbance at Chiquita Blvd and Veterans Memorial Pkwy E in Cape Coral, Florida.

Officers met with the driver and passenger of a car that called to report a road rage incident. The initial callers stated that a white Toyota Camry cut them off in traffic. While stopped at a stop light, the driver of the Toyota Camry got out of his vehicle with a baseball bat and hit the initial caller’s window. The initial caller and his passenger quickly got out of their vehicle. The driver of the Toyota Camry, later identified as Roy Joseph Murray Jr (W/M 10/02/1987), got back into his vehicle. Murray allegedly hit the passenger with his vehicle, causing her to fall down. Murray then drove over the median to quickly leave the scene.

Officers quickly located Murray’s vehicle and detained him. The investigation revealed that Murray allegedly struck the initial caller’s window and then struck the passenger while leaving the scene.

Murray was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

1 Count F.S.S. 316.192 (1a) Reckless Driving
