Juvenile Arrested for Vehicular Homicide
(June 28, 2023)- On June 27, 2023, at approximately 1:17 p.m., Cape Coral Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit contacted Thomas William Wilson (W/M 10-13-2005, 1924 Southwest 54th Street) at his residence upon the probable cause established in an active warrant for his arrest for violating F.S.S. 782.071(1)(a) Vehicular Homicide and for F.S.S. 316.192(3)(a)(1) Reckless Driving causing Property Damage (3 Counts).
On November 25, 2022, Traffic homicide officers responded to a severe crash which injuries near the 5100-Block of Skyline Boulevard, where it was reported that a white Chevrolet Camaro driven by Mr. Wilson was traveling northbound on Skyline Boulevard approaching Southwest 51st Terrace at a high rate of speed. The other vehicle the victim drove was westbound on Southwest 51st Terrace.
The victim's vehicle entered the intersection, and the front right bumper/corner of Mr. Wilson's vehicle impacted the front left corner of the victim's vehicle. The impact caused the victim's vehicle to be directed northeast and rotate clockwise approximately three complete rotations. Mr. Wilson's vehicle continued North and slightly to the West while beginning to rotate clockwise into the grassy median.
The left side of Mr. Wilson's vehicle impacted a concrete light pole causing it to crumble and fall to the ground. The impact with the concrete light pole caused this vehicle to rotate counterclockwise approximately 180 degrees, where it impacted a tree in the median with its right side and came to a final rest. The victim's vehicle also went to a final rest in a nearby yard.
The victim died as a result of the injuries sustained from the crash.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Wilson was traveling as fast as 106 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
Mr. Wilson was subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.
Mr. Wilson was charged with the following:
*Vehicular Homicide F.S.S. 782.071(1)(a) (3 Counts).
* Reckless Driving causing Property Damage F.S.S. 316.192(3)(a)(1).
