Shooting Leads to Arrest

(May 15, 2023)- On May 6, 2023, at approximately 3:38 a.m., officers from the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a call for service 400-Block of NE 16th Place in reference to a shooting. 

The caller stated that their residence had just been shot at, and the victim returned fire. A Dodge Charger was reported to have fled the scene.

Based on the nature of the incident, our Violent Crimes Unit was notified and responded.

At the scene, ten bullet holes were located on the victim's lanai screen and through the glass slider into the victim's bedroom. Several rounds went through the victim's bedroom and into the unit next door.

After a thorough investigation, Angel Manuel Perez Jr. (W/M 07-18-1988, 743 Veronica Shoemaker Blvd., Fort Myers) was determined to have committed the shooting.

A search warrant was served at Mr. Perez Jr's residence, where a firearm, narcotics, and $20,000 were seized, as well as his Dodge Charger.

Mr. Perez Jr. was subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.

Mr. Perez Jr. was charged with the following:

Attempted Second Degree Murder F.S.S. 782.04 (2).

Shooting into a Building F.S.S. 790.19 [2 Counts].

Improper Exhibition of a Firearm F.S.S. 790.10.
