Convicted Felon Arrested from Traffic Stop

(January 27, 2023) On January 26, 2023, an officer from the Cape Coral Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at the 600-Block of Southeast 24th Avenue.

Officers had prior knowledge that this vehicle was just involved in a crime and was able to quickly locate this suspect vehicle within proximity to the call location. An investigatory traffic stop was conducted on this vehicle.

Contact was made with Vincent Smith (W/M 12-05-2003, 1915 SW 13th Street), who was the driver of this vehicle. Cape Coral Police K9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle with a positive alert. Officers located numerous narcotics inside the vehicle and on Mr. Smith.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Smith had a handgun in his vehicle, which was confirmed stolen out of Texas. This handgun had a full magazine inserted into the chamber—two .223 Caliber rounds of ammunition were also inside the vehicle's cabin. Acetaminophen, Oxycodone Hydrochloride, Methamphetamine, THC Oil, and over 20 Grams of Marijuana were in Mr. Smith's possession.

Mr. Smith and all three occupants were transported to Lee County Jail on similar charges. 

Mr. Smith was charged with the following:

*Possession of a Controlled Substance F.S.S. 893.13(6)(a) [4 Counts].

*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, F.S.S. 790.23(1)(b).

*Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon, F.S.S. 790.23(1)(b).

*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, F.S.S. 893.147(1).

*Possession of a Controlled Substance F.S.S. 893.13(6)(a) [ 4 Counts].
