Male Arrested After Leading Officers on a Foot Chase
(January 5, 2023) On January 4, 2023, an officer from the Cape Coral Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic infraction at 1600-Block of Santa Barbara Blvd North.
The older model red Mitsubishi was driving recklessly. This vehicle was swerving around vehicles, following other vehicles too closely, and at one point, the car stopped in the middle of the roadway. The officer activated the marked police vehicle’s emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. At this time, the vehicle veered into a neighborhood and drove through a vacant lot to avoid the traffic stop. The officer disengaged the traffic stop due to losing sight of the vehicle. The officer began to patrol the neighborhood and was able to quickly locate the vehicle parked nearby.
The officer saw a male, later identified as Handy Granda (W/M 08-08-1986, 521 NE 24th Ave), take off on foot at the sight of officers. Officers chased the male on foot into a nearby new construction. The male was located attempting to hide behind an air-conditioning unit. The male was quickly detained.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Granda, currently on inmate release status for a prior burglary offense, had a license suspended five times. A plethora of narcotics was located on Mr. Granda and in his vehicle.
Mr. Granda was subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.

*Possession of Cocaine F.S. 893.13(6)(a), Cocaine, 1.0 grams.
*Possession of Cocaine F.S. 893.13(6)(a), Cocaine, 1.2 grams.
*Possession of Controlled Substance F.S. 893.13(6)(d), Methamphetamine, 3.9 grams.
* Possession of a Controlled Substance F.S. 893.13(6)(a), Fentanyl,1.1 grams.
Located in Mr. Granda’s vehicle:
*Possession of Marijuana over 20 grams F.S. 893.13(6)(a), Marijuana 55.2 grams.
*Possession without a prescription F.S. 893.13(6)(a), Cocaine 1.4 grams.
*Possession without a prescription F.S. 893.13(6)(a), Heroin 1.0 grams (black tar).
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia F.S. 893.147(1), multiple glass smoking pipes with residue, crusher, baggies, spoons, and baking powder.
*Carrying a Concealed Weapon F.S. 790.01(1).
Mr. Granda was also charged with:
*Flee/Elude Police F.S. 316.1935(1).
*Reckless Driving F.S. 316.192(1)(a).
*Suspended driver's license for driving while license suspended, habitual traffic offender, F.S. 322.34(10)(b)(1).
