Student Arrested at Cape Coral High School for Written Threats

(December 20, 2022)- On December 19, 2022, School Resource Officers from the Cape Coral Police Department were made aware of a school threat at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd South (Cape Coral High School).

The School Resource Officer assigned to this school was informed that a student, later identified as Matthew Asa Tucker (W/M 5-24-2007, 1329 NE Juanita Place), had posted, “I feel like shooting the school up ngl” to Google Classroom, which is a blended learning platform utilized by local schools. The IP address used to post this threat was linked to Mr. Tucker.

After denying posting the written threat, the investigation revealed that Mr. Tucker finally admitted that he did post the threat. Mr. Tucker stated that he opened his computer and saw another student’s information still logged in, and after allegedly discussing ideas with other students, he decided to post this threat.

Mr. Tucker was subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.

Mr. Tucker was charged with the following:

*Written or Electronic Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting F.S.S. 812.10(2)(b).
