Student Arrested for Snapchat Threats

(September 21, 2022)- On September 20, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m. School Resource Officers from the Cape Coral Police Department were made aware of a school threat at 1039 NE 16th Terrace (Diplomat Middle School).

The School Resource Officer assigned to this school was informed that a student later identified as A’Niyah Antonae Harris (B/F 10-28-2009, 1612 NW 23rd Terrace) had posted a Snapchat brandishing a light-colored “machine gun” style weapon with the wording, “imma shoot up the school tmr”.

Cape Coral Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Detectives then responded to Miss. Harris’s residence and began investigating. Miss. Harris claimed ownership of the Snapchat username and admitted to sending the photo. Miss. Harris stated that the gun shown in the photo was a fake “blaster” gun and was broken. Miss. Harris also stated that the threats were just a joke. A gray and orange SplatRball gun was located and submitted as evidence.

Miss Harris was subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.

Miss Harris was charged with the following:

*Written or Electronic Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting F.S.S. 812.10(2)(b).
