Street Sweeping Program
Street sweeping is performed on a routine schedule throughout the City and focuses on major roadways and residential streets based on traffic volume, debris accumulation, and water quality considerations. Sweeping frequency and coverage may vary depending on location, weather conditions, and seasonal needs.
Outside contractors have performed this program on the City’s behalf, primarily south of Pine Island Road (State Road 78), since April 2011.
The evolution of the street sweeping program has led to the current contract, which performs approximately 550 miles of sweeping monthly, with locations varying in frequency. Special events and emergency response is performed on an as-needed basis. As with all equipment, there are limitations to what street sweeping trucks can safely pick up, which is why the City of Cape Coral employs multiple methods of debris removal to accomplish this task.
Program Limitations
- Sweepers remove loose roadway debris and sediment
- Large debris, yard waste, and construction materials cannot be safely removed
- Parked vehicles may limit effectiveness
