Open House - March 9, 2017
Redevelopment Management Associates hosted an informal “Open House” on Thursday, March 9, for interested parties to view information and ask questions about the Bimini Basin Redevelopment project.  RMA is the City’s Project Manager for the Bimini Basin.  The open house was from 9:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Chester Street Resource Center (4816 Chester Street). 

More than 250 residents, property owners, business owners, community and neighborhood leaders stopped by to discuss their thoughts and ideas regarding this potential project with RMA staff.

Open House - July 11, 2016
The City hosted an Open House for the public on Monday, July 11 to share the proposed zoning district and permitted uses being proposed for the Bimini Basin.  About 125 people visited stopped by to view the map, ask questions and discuss the process.  Attendees were asked to share their "likes" and "dislikes" about the proposed zoning district and uses.  

There were more attendees than handouts, so we are posting the documents on the Bimini web page.  They are located in the right column.    

Updated Bimini Basin Timeline
The City is following the updated timeline as outlined in the memo provided to City Council on May 13, 2016.  The memo is in the right column for reviewing.

Bimini Basin Land Use and Zoning Changes Moving Forward
City Council will begin reviewing potential land use and zoning changes required to create the "Bimini Basin District."  The future land use being proposed for the Bimini area is "Downtown Mixed Use."  This future zoning will provide more opportunities for a variety of future development in the area.  A large-scale, land-use amendment covering more than 50 acres was approved for submittal at the City Council meeting on Monday, May 2.  See Land Use ordinance in right column.

Final Presentation on Bimini Basin Concepts Draws Large Crowd (2015)
More than 300 people attended the final presentation by USF planners on the Bimini Basin Visioning Process.  Three USF planning teams presented their concepts to the attendees.  A large, interchangeable model was a focal point of the presentation, allowing attendees to view the various concepts.

The three concepts presented at the March 17 "open house" by USF are posted for viewing.  The concepts are listed on a submenu under the "Bimini Basin" tab in the left menu bar.  The three concepts are:

Bimini Basin Visioning Continues to Move Forward (2015)

Charrette brought 42 stakeholders and the public together to create a vision

City Council and staff continue to move forward with a planning process for the Bimini Basin in the south Cape.  The City is working with the University of South Florida’s School of Architecture and Community Design, which the City has retained to conduct the planning and visioning process on the Bimini Basin. 

On January 29, the USF team facilitated a Visioning Charrette at the Cape Coral Volunteer Fireman's Hall.  A group of 42 stakeholders were selected to participate in the visioning charrette.  After a brief introduction, the group embarked on a four-hour charette process. 

At the end of the planning process, the charrette groups presented their recommendations to the other participants as well as members of the public.  A vote was held to determine which recommendation would be moved forward.

USF returned on March 17 to present and review the initial design plan for the idea that received the most support from the stakeholders and the public.  

The USF team will incorporate the additional feedback received during this process review and return for a final presentation scheduled for April 23, 2015 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church at 4544 Coronado Parkway.  The public is invited to attend this presentation and hear the potential plans for creating a destination at the Bimini Basin.  Surveys will be distributed to attendees for feedback into the final suggested design plan.
