Cape Coral Receives "Tree City USA" Recognition 24 Years Straight
For the twenty-fourth year in a row, the City of Cape Coral has received a "Tree City USA" award. This program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, maintains that a City must meet four standards in order to achieve Tree City USA recognition including:
- Must maintain a Tree Board or Department;
- Must have a tree care ordinance in place;
- Must maintain a community forestry program with annual budget of at least $2 per capita;
- Must have an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
The benefits of being a "Tree City" include creating a framework for action and education, a positive public image and citizen pride.
