Cape Clips: March 16 City Council Meeting
In case you missed the meeting, the following are highlights from the March 16, 2022, Cape Coral City Council meeting.
City Council Approves Award of Bid for Construction of Yellow Fever Creek Park Preserve
Resolution 59-22 awards a bid for the construction of Yellow Fever Creek Park Preserve to OAC Action Construction Corp. and authorizes the City Manager to execute the contract. The proposed park improvements will establish walk-in campsites and provide a restroom/shower facility. The park will also include a Welcome Center building with a multipurpose room, exhibit hall, camp store, staff office, screened patio and restrooms. Other improvements include parking, walking paths, pavilions and creation of a disc golf course.
City Council Approves Investment Policy Changes
City Council approved the recommended updates to the Investment Policy which includes putting the Investment Committee back into the Investment Policy. The policy defines the roles and responsibilities of the Investment Committee members, and states the Committee reports and meets on a quarterly basis.
City Council Set Public Hearing Date for Ordinance 27-22
A Public Hearing is set for April 6, 2022 regarding ordinance 27-22 which amends the Cape Coral City Charter. The ordinance stipulates that when a special election is required to fill a Council vacancy, if three or more candidates qualify, a special primary election is required and must occur no sooner than 90 days and not later than 120 days following the date of the vacancy. A special general election must be held within 45 days following certification of the special primary election results.
Water Quality – Update
There is no blue green algae or red tide present in Lee County at this time. Staff continues to install electrical components of bubble curtain projects. Once we receive required permit from the United States Army Corps of Engineers we will be prepared to move forward with installation of the actual bubble curtains.
