Cape Coral Parks & Recreation to Host "Safer Way Virtual 5K" from April 24-May 4

The City of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department is proud to present the “Safer Way Virtual 5K” from Friday, April 24 through Monday, May 4. The goal is to raise money to help local healthcare workers fight COVID-19 while providing members of the community an opportunity to stay active, participate in an event, and be part of the fight. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Lee Health Foundation.

The “Safer Way Virtual 5K” is a 5K race or walk, where people of all ages, from anywhere in the country, can register and participate from the safety of their neighborhoods. Participants will have 11 days to complete the 5K run/walk and record their results.

“We understand this may be a difficult time for people,” said Parks and Recreation Director Kerry Runyon. “Since the Parks and Recreation Department is currently unable to host our community typical events, we wanted to offer a virtual 5K to keep people in the community moving and feeling connected. This event helps our frontline healthcare workers in the process.”

Registration for this event is open and the entire $10 registration fee will be donated to the Lee Health Foundation. Anyone interested in making a larger donation will be able to do so at the time of registration. The first 200 participants to register will receive an event t-shirt, thanks to event sponsor Storm Smart.
