Trash, Yard Waste, Recycling FAQs
Residents should use the green recycling cart for recyclables collection.
Trash generated in the home should be bagged and tied closed before placing in the cart. Bags keep your cart cleaner and minimize odors. Please do not place hot coals or ashes, dirt or rocks, large bulk items, medical waste (sharps, syringes or prescription medications), hazardous waste or recyclable items in the garbage cart. Do not overfill the carts. The lids should remain closed to assure proper collection, help prevent windblown litter, and help to control odor and varmints. A good practice is to periodically rinse out your cart.
Please call Waste Pro to request special service if you, and all other occupants of the residence are disabled. For more information, please call 239-337-0800.
Solid waste too big, bulky, or heavy to fit into the trash cart is considered bulk trash and should be placed out for collection on your scheduled collection day. Bulk trash should be at least 5 feet away from a fixed object such as a fire hydrant, mailbox, cars, storm drain, utility pole, or any other damageable property.
Typically, the location you buy appliance items from offers free removal. If they do not; you may schedule a special pick up by contacting Waste Pro at 239-337-0800 for white good materials such as stoves, washers, refrigerators, and other large appliances. Waste Pro will coordinate a time, date and items to be picked up at no charge.
You can find out your trash, recycling, and bulk collection schedule by clicking on the Collection Zone Map. You may also call the City of Cape Coral Citizen’s Action at 311 or Waste Pro at 239-337-0800 for recycling, garbage, or bulk collection days.
Trash collection carts should be placed curbside no earlier than 5:00pm on the day before your scheduled collection day. Carts should be at least 5 feet away from your mailbox, trees, fire hydrants, cars, sprinkler heads, or any other damageable property. If you have an extenuating circumstance and need help with determining the proper placement of your collection carts, please contact Waste Pro for assistance at 239-337-0800. Do not leave the cart on the street where it may be stolen or damaged.
The carts are provided by Waste Pro, and must remain at the residence unless they are removed by Waste Pro.
Please do your best to accommodate the service vehicles by parking in a manner that provides safe access to the collection carts. If a vehicle is blocking (preventing) the safe collection of your carts, then the driver will not provide collection services at that time and you will not receive collection service.
The collection carts are property of City of Cape Coral, and must not be modified, altered, or abused. If your cart has been damaged, the following applies: If the damage is your fault, you will be required to pay for a replacement. For example, any cart that is destroyed by hot ashes or coals shall be the responsibility of the customer, and it shall be replaced at the customer’s expense. If the collection contractor damages your cart it will be replaced at no charge. Do not leave the cart on the street where it may be stolen or damaged. Waste Pro will be responsible for all replacement and repairs of the carts.
To order a replacement tote, please contact the City of Cape Coral 311. Please note that it may take a few days to receive your new tote, so patience is appreciated. In the meantime, you can place trash in personal cans or plastic bags by the curb no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before your regular trash collection day. Each bag or can should not weigh more than 50 pounds. For recycling, you can use an empty cardboard box with the word “RECYCLE” written clearly on it and place it next to the can.
Do not place Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) or E-Waste (flammables, paint, poisons, motor oil, etc.) inside the cart. The City provides multiple opportunities for residents to properly dispose of household hazardous and electronics waste at no cost. Contact Lee County Hazardous Waste at 239-533-8000, for proper disposal information.
