Severe Tropical Weather

Transcript:

Before the storm:

Start by making a family emergency plan — including where you’d go if an evacuation is ordered. Next, prep your hurricane kit with the essentials: food, water, medications, batteries, flashlights, pet supplies, and those all-important documents. Take a walk around your home and secure anything loose outside, and check for any spots that might need extra protection. And don’t forget to store your important documents in waterproof containers so they stay safe no matter what.

During the storm:

During the storm, stay indoors and keep yourself safe. If someone is in danger or needs immediate help, call 911. For non-emergencies — like downed trees, flooded roads, or general storm concerns — use 311 instead. Remember, many city services may be suspended until conditions improve, so the best thing you can do is stay inside, stay alert, and wait for the all-clear.

After the storm:

After the storm passes, stay vigilant. Avoid walking or driving through flooded water, and keep far away from any downed power lines. If you’re using a generator, keep it outside and away from windows. Watch for traffic lights that may be out or flashing. When cleaning up, separate your debris into the correct piles so it can be collected faster. And if your home needs repairs, make sure you get the right permits before starting work.

Remember: Ready today, Prepared for tomorrow!
