Two Fort Myers Juveniles Arrested for Vehicle Burglaries

(March 17, 2023)- On March 17, 2023, at approximately 3:05 a.m., Cape Coral Police Department officers responded to a call for service near the 100-Block of SE 1st Place, Cape Coral, Lee County, Florida, in reference to a vehicle burglary in progress.

The call notes stated that three subjects appeared to be burglarizing vehicles near this location. These subjects were described as dressed in dark clothing with hoodies pulled over their heads. It was alleged that two males were pulling door handles on vehicles as one of the males acted as the “lookout.”

Officers arrived at the scene and located three black males matching the description running southbound on SE 1st Ave. A perimeter was quickly established, and Cape Coral Police K9 responded to the call location for a track. Lee County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit also responded to locate these suspects.

Victims on scene reported their unlocked vehicles had been rummaged through, and items of value and cash were reported missing. Numerous vehicles near this location were attempted, and several unlocked vehicles were searched.   

Lee County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit located two males matching the description attempting to conceal themselves near the backside of a residence. Contact was made with Jalen Lenored Stokes (B/M 12-17-2005, 1764 Palmdale Ct, Fort Myers) and Charlie Sturgis (B/M 4-16-2007, 2346 Winkler Ave, Fort Myers), who were both covered in grass clippings and burrs. Both males were immediately detained, and both refused to talk to officers.

 A show-up was conducted, and the victim was able to readily identify both Mr. Stokes and Mr. Sturgis as the subjects who were caught inside the victim’s vehicle.

Mr. Stokes and Mr. Sturgis were subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.

Mr. Stokes was charged with the following:

* Petit Theft F.S.S. 812.014(3)(a).

* Burglary F.S.S. 810.02(4)(b). [ 3 counts]

Mr. Sturgis was charged with the following:

* Petit Theft F.S.S. 812.014(3)(a).

* Burglary F.S.S. 810.02(4)(b). [ 3 counts]
