Man Arrested After Spitting on Officer

(March 7, 2023)- On March 7, 2023, at approximately 01:25 a.m., officers from the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a call for service at 1100-Block of Southwest 44th Street in reference to a disturbance in progress.

The call notes stated a male, later identified as Skyler Gerald Watson (W/M 05-21-1996), was acting erratic and arguing with people at the residence. 

Officers arrived at the scene and contacted Mr. Watson, who was visibly intoxicated, parallel to his rage. Mr. Watson, during the officer’s encounter, began to wave his hands in the officer’s face shouting profanities and was unwilling to answer questions regarding what had transpired before police arrival.

Witnesses on the scene stated Mr. Watson had a verbal argument at a local bar, leading up to officers being called after they arrived back at home. Witnesses on the scene wanted Mr. Watson removed from the residence to help alleviate any further disputes. Officers attempted to assist Mr. Watson, who was uncooperating. Mr. Watson lunged at an officer’s face with his hands, and he was quickly placed into handcuffs, where he continued to resist and fight officers. Mr. Watson attempted to “leg sweep” officers while in handcuffs, and while being placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, he spat into an officer’s face.

Mr. Watson was subsequently transported to Lee County Jail.

Mr. Watson was charged with the following:

* Battery LEO F.S.S. 784.07(2)(b).

*Resisting Without Violence F.S.S. 843.02.
